Gump’s Designed by G. Cini Sterling Large Hawaiian Orchid Pin

$165.00

Beautiful sterling silver Hawaiian orchid brooch signed “GUMP’S DESIGNED BY G. CINI” and “STERLING”.  The pin is very dimensional and has nice detailing.  The pin is large, measuring 2 1/2″ x 2 1/2″.  The safety clasp is in good working condition.  A little Internet research shows that Gump’s was a high-end luxury store, selling jewelry, furnishings and home décor, much of it brought over from the orient. As is apparent by the signature on this piece, this orchid was made for the Gump’s stores by designer Guglielmo Cini (born 1903 – died 1979). The original Gump’s store was opened in San Francisco in 1861 and was sold in 1975. The family also opened a Gump’s in Hawaii in 1929 and closed in 1951. Although this piece is probably from the late 1940s, it is in great vintage condition. There is a bit of patina (darkening) to the silver, but it only adds to the beauty of this piece. I do not polish my jewelry; the way you see it is the way I bought it. I leave it to the buyer to do any polishing themselves. Absolutely beautiful piece, and a neat piece of history.
