Snake Skin Belt with Robert Kelley Sterling Belt Buckle with Hand-Painted Spaniels

$325.00

This is a really unique find. It is a genuine snake skin belt with a diamond stitched pattern that has a very large oval sterling belt buckle. The belt buckle has 2 hand-painted cocker spaniel-looking dogs on the front in brown and white on a pale yellow and peachy colored background. The dogs are painted on an oval that I’m not sure of the material. The oval is bevel set into the sterling setting that has a scalloped edge. The back of the buckle is marked “ROBT KELLEY STERLING”. Research online indicates he was Native American, Navajo.  The buckle measures 3″ x 2 1/2″.  The belt measures 45″ long from tip to tip.  The belt is almost 1 1/2″ wide (1 3/8″ wide).  There are two small scratches to the right of the dogs. The belt seems to be in good condition. There doesn’t seem to be any stitching missing, but the middle looks a little wavy from what I’m guessing was caused from wearing it (you can see it in the full-length picture). I’ve seen a few belt buckles of Robert Kelley online, but none with the belt still attached. I believe this piece may be from the 1940s or 1950s. I purchased it in 2022 locally from the estate of a doctor who had passed away in 2019 at the age of 86.
