Unusual Black Mourning Pin

This pin is very unusual. It is made in what appears to be a matte finished black glass. A large black rectangle is surrounded by 16 black half beads and 2 black faceted pear stones are on either end of the rectangle. I’m still not 100% sure it’s glass, but I don’t know what else it would be. The back is finished in a black enamel. The c-clasp is in good working condition, however, it appears that it may have had a hinged pin at one time. I’ve attached a photo so you can decide. I believe this pin may be from the turn of the century as it appears to be a piece of mourning jewelry, worn during the mourning period after a loved ones death. Measures 2 1/4″ x 1/2″.
