Nickel Silver M.B. Chatelaine Compact
This is a small silvertone square compact that most likely came off a chatelaine. It has a striped design on the front and a ray of circles on the back. Inside the front is a mirror, which is a bit speckled and a place for what looks like a coin. This part is marked “M.B.” in an oval and “NICKLE SILVER” (spelled wrong). On close inspection with a magnifying glass, “0222” has been etched into the compact. The bottom half of the compact has a spinning mechanism to uncover a compartment for makeup (there is none in there currently). This is marked “PAT . APL’D FOR”. The compact looks like a silvertone finish over some sort of goldtone metal. Please note, this is nickle silver, NOT sterling silver. It is not considered precious metal. The compact has a snap closure like a coin purse and is in good working condition. There is a hole at the top so it can be worn on a chatelaine. Measures 2″ x 2-1/4″. Nice old piece.
